CaveInn's County Fair

Let me tell you about our charcoal girl, Ellie-Mae.

Ellie-Mae lived in the shadow of Miss Stormy up until recently. Ellie is always happy and has those endearing smile muscles like our charcoal girl Pidge. She doesn’t take anything too seriously, except her role as a Momma.

We knew from her xray her puppies were very long and large. There were 5 for sure. When she delivered her 1st puppy on the night of the 21st, we took a deep breath and were grateful things were moving along.

The 2nd puppy was unfortunately too difficult to deliver and was still born.

A silent one.

Ellie delivered the rest of her puppies without difficulty. For this, we were relieved. Ellie was very tired and a bit anxious like she was missing something. We needed to find a way to calm her and ease her sadness. Calcium works wonders for new Mommas and we supplemented her with plain greek yogurt and Mother’s pudding made with raw goats milk. She welcomed this.

When I picked up Ellie as a puppy to bring her home, she had this little stuffed toy that I was told she kept with her always. We still have this and we thought maybe giving this to Ellie might help her cope with her loss. Joel also made a tent over the whelping box so she has the feel of being in a den. The minute he finished this Ellie calmed down and is eating and feeling better.

Puppies saw Dr Keller for a well puppy check and all 4 are doing famously. We have 2 boys and 2 girls and they have gained good weight in these first days.
