“I cannot speak highly enough about the operation run by Penny & Joel, nor about the quality of the puppy we received from them.
After hitting some red flags with another operation more local (in MN) and pulling out, I expanded my search criteria into Iowa and came across CaveInn. Penny was wonderfully responsive to all my emailed/texted/called questions, and they invited us to their property to see their operation (which is part of their home, wonderfully clean, and very personalized). Penny & Joel had no problems with me bringing my family (including small kids) to meet the puppies before making our selection, and were not at all rushed during the visit. They both spent time chatting with us, and it was clear they were deeply invested in developing quality puppies (exposing them to varied experiences & stressors early in life, providing high-quality food, keeping a clean environment, interacting with the puppies a LOT early-on, etc). Using what they learned about my family's needs, they guided our puppy selection to a wonderful temperament fit (we were looking for an active family dog, but not a hunting dog).
The process was very transparent: the parents' OFA/etc testing is linked on their webpage, Penny frequently sent information and pictures of the litter, and they provided all of the AKC certification items when the time came.

Our dog is now 9 months old. He's very gentle with people (again, including two small kids), and he's respectfully playful with other dogs. He's probably going to grow to 60-65 lbs; 65-lb adult dog in the following pictures for scale.
