Remembering Blue Moon: All Dogs Go To Heaven

Miss Blue Moon

Missing Moon leaves a significant void that echoes deeply in the quiet spaces of our home, a reminder of all that she brought to our lives. Her playful spirit infused our days with abundant joy and her gentle companionship offered comfort during our quieter moments together. The memories of her bounding across the yard, tail wagging furiously in unrestrained enthusiasm, linger in our minds like familiar tunes that evoke both happiness and sorrow. Each corner of the house seems to whisper sweet reminders of her presence, from the cozy spot by the fireplace where she would lie peacefully to the cheerful greetings that happily awaited us at the door each time we returned home.

The loss is palpable, a bittersweet reminder of the love and deep connection we shared, and her absence is felt profoundly within our hearts. Over the years, we have raised many Labrador Retrievers, and each one has occupied a special place in our home and also in our hearts. A number of years ago, I read a thought-provoking book by Dr. Jessica Volglesang, titled “All Dogs Go to Kevin - Everything Three Dogs Taught Me That I Didn’t Learn in Veterinary School,” and it resonated with me deeply as I reflected on our journey with our beloved dogs.

When we are faced with the profound loss of a beloved family member, there is never anything that feels easy or normal about saying goodbye. But let’s take a moment to reflect on that… our wonderful Labs truly never leave us in spirit. There are unique spaces in our hearts that were shaped and defined by the countless moments spent living and loving our cherished Labs. In this poignant moment of remembrance, we must hold onto the truth that they give us so much more than they ever take away.

It has now been one full year since we said goodbye (for now) to our beloved Blue Moon. There truly isn’t a single day that goes by without me thinking of her or feeling her unwavering presence surrounding us. She was born under the enchanting glow of a Blue Moon, and the recent Full Moon has brought her beautiful memory back to me so vividly.

You can’t always count on people, but you can always count on your dog. No one knows that better than veterinarian.
— Dr Jessica Volgelsang
