There is always one puppy in a litter who seems determined to make sure you notice them—and in our Hope Floats litter, that puppy just might be Big Delores.
Delores is our beautiful charcoal girl, and she earned the “Big” in her name very early. She has been the roundest, wonderfully chunky puppy in the group from the beginning. But as these puppies grow and their personalities begin to emerge, we are discovering there is much more to Delores than that adorable puppy belly.
She has been one of our firsts.
Delores has consistently been among the first puppies to investigate something new, toddle off to explore, engage with a new experience, or figure out what is happening around her. She approaches her expanding world with a confidence and curiosity that has been fun to watch.
Something else we are noticing—and particularly appreciate—is how responsive she is to people. Even at this young age, Delores seems to notice when we interact with her. She engages, responds to our voices and appears genuinely interested in what the humans around her are doing.
Of course, at only a few weeks old, we are careful not to label a puppy's temperament too soon. There is a tremendous amount of development still ahead. Over the coming weeks, Delores will experience new sights, sounds, surfaces, toys, people and challenges, and we'll continue watching how she responds to each of them.
But so far, we really like what we're seeing.
Delores is showing us a lovely combination of curiosity, confidence and connection—three qualities that can provide a wonderful foundation as a Labrador grows.
And yes, she's still delightfully round. ❤️

Big Delores is currently looking for the right family to continue her story.
As part of Sam & Rueben's CaveInn's Hope Floats litter, she is being raised right alongside her siblings in our nursery, receiving the same hands-on care, early developmental experiences and socialization that are part of raising a CaveInn puppy.
Our goal isn't simply to find Delores a home. We want to find her home—a family who appreciates the puppy she is becoming and is ready to continue building on the foundation we're giving her here.
