A Big Week of Firsts at the CaveInn! 🐾πŸ₯›

Things are getting exciting in the puppy nursery! This week marks one of our favorite transitions as the puppies begin discovering that there is a whole world beyond Momma.

πŸ₯› First upβ€”goat’s milk!
We’ve begun introducing the puppies to warm goat’s milk this week, and if past litters are any indication, it won’t take long for them to figure out that this is pretty wonderful stuff. There will undoubtedly be milk-covered noses, messy little feet and at least one puppy who decides the best approach is to simply climb right into the dish. πŸ˜‚

Goat’s milk is our first step in the gradual transition from nursing to solid food. From here, we’ll begin introducing softened puppy food and slowly work toward the diet they’ll be eating when they leave CaveInn. Momma will continue to be an important part of their nutrition and comfort while the puppies learn that good things can come from a bowl, too!

πŸ‘‹ And another big firstβ€”visitors!

The puppies will also begin welcoming their first puppy-parent visitors. Up until now, their little world has been intentionally small and protected. As they grow and develop, we're able to gradually expand that world and introduce new people and experiences.

Meeting new people gives the puppies an opportunity to experience different voices, scents, touches and ways of being heldβ€”all while they are safe in familiar surroundings.

This is such a fun stage to watch. Every day brings something new: more confident little legs, more play, more interaction, emerging personalities…and now the discovery that humans apparently arrive bearing cuddles. ❀️

The tiny newborn stage goes by much too quickly, but we absolutely love watching these little ones begin discovering their world.

This week at CaveInn: new tastes, new faces and lots of new adventures! 🐾
