Building Confidence with Evvy: Obedience Class Updates
We are now less than 2 weeks away from Hayzel’s new arrivals. Next Monday she is scheduled for her x-ray to determine puppy count. We are full of much anticipation!

During these quieter weeks I have been taking Miss Evvy to her first obedience class. I’m so proud of her and her focus, confidence, and willingness to learn new things.
She is all puppy and as long as I can keep up with her and continue teaching her new things, I’m amazed how quickly she learns. Evvy and I have had numerous adventures together as we socialize her to new people, pets, and places.
My goal each week is to introduce her to a new place and new people. Along with continuing to build on what we have already learned. She graduated from a crate in the car to a seat belt. Ideally, I ordinarily would have her in the back seat (much safer) but this first time I buckled her in next to me in the front. She stayed very calm and was a great passenger.
On this trip we visited Compassionate Care Veterinary Clinic. We worked on staying calm when meeting someone new. Many people walk in and out with all kinds of pets. Evvy tends to bark to greet everyone. Since I want to curb this behavior, I asked her to sit and focus on me. This was successful, but something we will continue work on.
I love to watch this girl work! She was able to stay in place (on her Cato Board) while I walked to opposite side of the room, turned my back to her, and then stepped to each side of her. Good job, Evvy!
Next, I am beginning to go to the door and turn the handle. So far, so good. The goal is to have her stay in place while I leave the room. Her confidence is a plus with training and step by step we are making good progress. We have just 1 more obedience class with Deb at Pawsitive Solutions and then we will move on to the next level! This has been a great class and I highly recommend Deb to anyone for training!
I have been hearing from many of our parents that are also beginning puppy kindergarten. This makes my heart happy. The time you put into your puppy will come back to reward your relationship in ways you cannot imagine.
Keep up the good work everyone!
Penny
